How to choose an AI app builder

Start with what you are building and who will look after it. Prompt-to-app builders write the code for you; visual no-code tools let you build by hand with AI help. Try one small real project on a free plan before you pay, and watch how fast it uses credits.

  • You want a web app from a prompt, with code you own

Lovable builds the interface, database, sign-in and hosting from a chat, and syncs the project to GitHub, GitLab or Bitbucket. Bolt.new builds full-stack web apps in your browser, with the code in view. v0, from Vercel, builds React and Next.js web apps, with GitHub sync and publishing on Vercel.

  • You want building and hosting in one place

Replit builds, hosts and publishes web and mobile apps from one workspace. Base44 includes login, a database and analytics even on its free plan. Hostinger Horizons, now part of Hostinger AI Builder, comes with Hostinger hosting, plus a domain and mailboxes free for the first year.

  • You need an app in the App Store and Google Play

FlutterFlow builds native iOS and Android apps visually and exports the Flutter code from its Basic plan. Bolt.new can take a project to the App Store and Google Play through Expo, and Emergent builds iOS and Android apps with Expo. Base44 generates store files that wrap your web app, and Bubble's native mobile editor is in beta. Lovable and Hostinger Horizons build web apps only.

  • You're building on business data

Softr turns data from Airtable, Google Sheets, HubSpot, Salesforce or its own databases into portals and internal tools, and plans are priced by the number of builders and users. For apps with custom logic and workflows, Bubble offers a full visual editor and an AI agent.

  • You already write code

Cursor is an AI code editor built around agents, for building an app in your own project. Its plans changed on October 13, 2026, so check the model each plan includes. Shipixen generates a branded Next.js landing page and blog codebase to start from. For coding agents and editor plugins, see our AI coding assistants.

Hostinger Horizons is now Hostinger AI Builder

In August 2026 Hostinger merged Horizons and its Website Builder into one platform, Hostinger AI Builder, with a manual mode and an agentic mode. Our Hostinger Horizons review was written before the change. If you mainly need a business website rather than an app, see our AI website builders.

AI app builders FAQ

What is the best AI app builder in 2026?

Lovable is the best AI app builder in our October 2026 rankings, at 4.7 out of 5, for full-stack web apps built from plain-English prompts. Bolt.new suits builders who want the code in view. Replit puts building and hosting in one place, and Softr is our pick for internal tools and client portals.

Is there a free AI app builder?

Yes. Lovable, Bolt.new, Bubble, Softr, Base44, v0, FlutterFlow and Emergent all have free plans. They are best for trying an idea, since each one caps usage, such as credits, tokens, messages or projects. Replit no longer shows a free plan on its pricing page, and Hostinger offers a 7-day trial instead.

Can AI app builders make mobile apps?

Yes, several can. FlutterFlow builds native iOS and Android apps visually and exports the code. Bolt.new can take a project to the App Store and Google Play through Expo, Emergent builds mobile apps with Expo, and Replit builds web and mobile apps from the same workspace. Base44 generates store files that wrap your web app, and Bubble's native mobile editor is in beta. Lovable builds web apps only.

Which AI app builder lets me own my code?

Lovable syncs every project to GitHub, GitLab or Bitbucket, even on its free plan. v0 also syncs with GitHub, Emergent includes GitHub from its Standard plan, and Base44 from its Builder plan. FlutterFlow exports Flutter code on paid plans. Visual platforms work differently: Bubble apps stay on Bubble, with no source-code export.

What are vibe coding tools?

Vibe coding tools such as Lovable, Bolt.new and Replit let you describe an app in plain language while an AI agent writes, runs and fixes the code. You steer with follow-up prompts rather than editing files. They work best for prototypes and small apps. For anything people will rely on, test it well and have a developer review sign-in and data handling.

What happened to Hostinger Horizons?

Hostinger merged Hostinger Horizons and its Website Builder into one platform, Hostinger AI Builder, on August 18, 2026. It has a manual mode and an agentic mode, and hostinger.com/horizons now leads to the AI Builder pages. AI Builder comes with Hostinger's hosting plans, and the lowest price, $2.99 a month, needs a 48-month plan and renews at $10.99 a month.

Why aren't Databutton or Blackbox AI on this list?

Databutton and Blackbox AI have both changed direction. Databutton's site now leads to Riff, which builds AI agents for industrial operations and ERP systems, sold through a demo. Blackbox AI now focuses on an enterprise AI platform with enterprise-only pricing. We list tools an individual builder can sign up for today.
